Colombia is the number one country with the largest bird species in the world, allowing to enjoy more than 1920 species of birds, of which 79 are endemic and 193 are almost endemic, the country is located in North South America and has a variety of thermal floors that range from 400 m.a.s.l. to 5300 m.a.s.l, passing through dry tropical forest to paramo areas.

This route allows you to observe, photograph and appreciate a combination of wonderful landscapes, sounds of birds, wildlife, you will find variety of climates; as well as you can see endemic birds of different departments to visit. This tour includes the central mountain ranges and eastern Colombia, a region which also allows birding by great Magdalena valley, you will find landscapes of green mountains, waterfalls, rivers, fog, like tropical dry forest ecosystems, this being last a forest of vulnerability and the threatened most of our territory, currently there is only 8% preserved in our country.

Note: Please note that your migration step may take between 30 minutes to an hour, if you want to exchange dollars, this must be done at the airport on arrival. ATMs are perhaps the easiest place to get Colombian pesos. If your flight is late, dinner is not included tonight.

Day 1: Arrival in Bogotá

Pick up at Dorado International Airport- Hummingbird Observatory. This will be the day of your arrival in Colombia, will be picked up at Dorado International Airport in the city of Bogota in the morning hours, recommendation of arrival time 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. Hummingbird Observatory On this first day we will visit the Hummingbird Observatory, located in the Calera, at 3000 m.a.s.l, being an ecosystem of high Andean forest own for the habitat of about 18 species of Hummingbirds as Black-tailed Trainbearer, Long-tailed Sylph, Glowing Puffleg, Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Green – tailed Trainbearer, Sword-billed Hummingbird, will be picked up at the airport at 8 a.m. Observatory is located approximately 32 km from Dorado International Airport, the travel time is approximately 2 hours; there we will spend all day and in the afternoon at 4 pm we will head towards Posada Las Bromelias, the route is about 80 km and 3 hours there we will rest for the next day. Day 2: Green and Water Park

On this day we will move to the Green Park and Water Reserve at 7:00 a.m.; which is approximately 17 km from Posada Las Bromelias and we will take 40 minutes on the tour. The Green Park and Water Reserve is located in the municipality of Fusagasugá, this is a forest reserve and its history is valuable since previously its owner had it as a cattle ranch and when discovering the wonderful world of birds was transforming its livestock activity in a reserve for birds, is dedicated to the conservation of the representative flora and fauna of the region, with a height between 2000 m.a.s.l. to 2600 m.a.s.l. at the highest point, temperature on average of 16 C, there can be easily seen in feeder species such as Colombian Chachalaca, Pale-vented Pigeon, Long-tailed Sylph, Greenish Puffleg, Booted Racket-tail, Fawn-breasted Brilliant Andean Esmeral, Indigo-capped Hummingbird, Shining-green Hummingbird, Pale-bellied Tapaculo, Silvery-throated Spinetail, Superciliaried Hemispingus, Blue necked tanager, Moustached Brushfinch, Golden-bellied Starfrontlet, Golden-winged Manakin y Flame-faced Tanager; we can be watching and photographing many birds of the place all day; at 4 p.m. we will head towards the city of Ibagué, where we will spend the night in the Iguaima Hotel; the tour is approximately 136 km and 2 hours and 30 minutes. Day 3: Ukuku Rural Lodge

Early in the morning at 5 a.m. we will leave for the sidewalk Juntas we will last approximately 20 minutes on the tour and arrive at Ukuku Rural Lodge, it is a place surrounded by fauna and flora of the high Andean ecosystem; is located in the beautiful Canyon of the Combeima River, there you can easily see some endemic birds typical of the central region of Colombia; among other birds that will arrive near the house for the hospitality of its owners; on the way to the Lodge there is a river where you could observe and photograph the torrent duck, there we will spend all day, and in the afternoon at 3 pm we will move to our resting place in the Cerro Dorado Hotel, located in the municipality of Mariquita , the route is approximately 140 km and 3 hours. Day 4: Termales del Ruiz Hotel

On this day we will move to the department of Caldas, where we will enjoy the landscape while we make the transfer to Termales del Ruiz Hotel, the tour is approximately 3 hours. In the Termales del Ruiz Hotel you can appreciate the beauty of the fog forest, it is like walking among the clouds, also enjoy a rich hot bath in the hotel pool, it is just 40 minutes from the entrance of the Nevados’ National Natural Park, which allows to photograph the Buffy Helmetcrest and is located approximately 3500 m.a.s.l., the hotel has viewpoints and feeders for some species of hummingbirds and it is possible among its forests and paths to find others such as tanagers and parrots. There you will be available all day to observe and photograph birds and; in the evening we will rest in the comfort of the hotel. Day 5: Termales del Ruiz Hotel

On this day you will be able to enjoy other sightings located within the hotel reservation, early at 6 a.m. you will start with the activity by mid-morning go for breakfast at 9 a.m.; Other meals will also be held in the same hotel. Day 6: Nevados’ National Natural Park and Tinamú Birding

In the morning we will leave for the surroundings of the Nevados’ National Natural Park at 6:30 a.m. to be able to photograph the Buffy Helmecrest, as well as other birds on the way to the park entrance, the time tour is from approximately 40 min. Before noon at 11 a.m. we will return to the hotel for lunch and at 1:30 p.m. we travel to Tinamú Birding Reserve to enjoy the afternoon photographing birds and rest there; the route is about 1 hour and 50 minutes in time and 47 km away. Day 7: Reserva Tinamu Birding

This day we will use it completely in Tinamu Birding, ideal place in Manizales for photography and bird watching, located at 1225. m.s.a.l., is one of the most named points in Colombia for this hobby. Day 8: Morning Tinamú Birding - Afternoon Río Blanco Reserve

On this day we will be in Tinamú Birding all morning; at 12:00 m we will have lunch in the same reservation and at 1:30 p.m. we will head towards the Rio Blanco Reserve; the transfer is approximately 47 km and two hours long. Late in the Protective Forest Reserve of Río Blanco and Quebrada Olivares located between 2,150 and 3,700 m.s.a.l. Day 9: All day in Río Blanco Reserve

We will be in Rio Blanco Reserve all day and then we will head towards the Valley to rest. We will spend the night at the Café Plaza Hotel in Tuluá, the route from the Rio Blanco Reserve is 180 km and 3 hours and 50 minutes long. Possible species: Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Bicolored Antpitta, Golden-plumed Parakeet, Brown-banded Antpitta, Rufous-crowned Tody-Flycatcher, Andean Guan, Black-capped Hemispingus, Tourmaline Sunangel, Red-hooded Tanager, Speckled Hummingbird, Beryl-spangled Tanager, Buff-tailed Coronet, Slate-crowned Antpitta, Golden-headed Quetzal, Chestnut-naped Antpitta, Masked Trogon, Slaty-backed Chat-Tyrant, Black-billed Mountain-Toucan, White-capped Tanager, Powerful Woodpecker, White-capped Dipper. Day10: Sonso Lagoon and Conchita

On the morning of this day we will head towards the Sonso Lagoon, the route is approximately 32 km and 50 min long. The Sonso Lagoon, is located at 936 m.s.n.m., with an average temperature of 23oC, and a relative humidity of 75%, being an attractive space for various species of waterfowl and others that inhabit around the lagoon; at 10:00 a.m. we will head towards La Conchita in the municipality of Queremal the route there is 3 hours long and 110 km. In the afternoon at 5:30 p.m. we will have dinner at the Conchita and move towards the hotel to rest. Day 11: Doña Dora Reserve (Alto Anchicaya El Descanso)

All day in reservation Doña Dora; this sighting point is the hit of the valley and Alto Anchicaya, because, you can observe Grallarias and Hummingbirds and photograph them easily. In the afternoon we will go to the Hotel Campanario where we will rest. Day 12: Finca La Alejandría and Flight to home

We will be all day in Finca La Alejandría the Paradise of the Hummingbirds, the route is 33 km and one hour and 10 minutes long; is located between 1900 m.s.a.l. and 2000 m.s.a.l., this place is special for photographing the Multicolored Tanager. At 4:00 p.m. we will depart for Alfonso Bonilla Aragon Airport in Cali for your international flight, the tour is about an hour and a half so you will arrive at the end of the afternoon at the airport, maximum hour 6:00 p.m. under normal conditions.
